First Line of Defense- Union Stewards

The union stewards play a significant role in Local 5381. A Steward is an employee of an organization or company who represents and defends the interest of his/her fellow employees. They are there to reach out to if you feel that you have been wronged by the employer and need support and advice. Your Union Steward will be there for you during the duration of the Grievance Process. It is important to note that if you are attending a disciplinary meeting with the employer, it is your right to have a steward with you to offer support and be a witness to the  interaction. We also want to make you aware that each Steward is bound by the Oath of Office and confidentiality is held to the highest importance.

Members Personal Contact Information

In order for members from Local 5381 to receive notifications regarding union business, the Executive as that you forward your current personal contact information to the Recording Secretary at your earliest convince. The Recording Secretary will not be held accountable for emails missed, if you do not send your contact information directly to her via. phone or email. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact Terri Lynn.

Collective Bargaining–Your ideas, suggestions, and concerns are needed to improve upon our Collective Agreement

Our Collective Bargaining Team is in the process of creating a bargaining proposal to table during Collective Bargaining with the employer in the near future. This is the time where we call upon members to help create change by voicing their suggestions, ideas and concerns. With your involvement, we can improve upon the Collective Agreement and foster positive change in the current working environment.

Please submit your bargaining suggestions to the recording secretary no later than Tuesday October 13th by email to Terri Lynn (Terri_Lynngeorge@Hotmail.com). If you have any questions or concerns, please consult with your stewards and Recording Secretary Terri Lynn. Please note that it is important to include your name and contact information on your bargaining suggestion.

Nominations for Union Roles takes Place on May 27th at the Membership Meeting

Please make it out to the next membership meeting on May 27th at 4:00pm. The meeting will be held at Booth street in the basement.  At this meetings there will be nomination taken for  the following union roles:

President, Vice President, Secretary Treasure, Secretary, and Trustees.

Upcoming Steward Training

For those Stewards who are interested,on March 19th-20th and April 8th-9th,  CUPE will be offering a workshop called, “Introduction to steward and Note taking”  in Ottawa. Please contact your union if you would like to attend.

314 Booth Street Health and Safety and Labour Management Rep.

Health and Safety Representative, Rebekah North, will be taking a leave of absence . While Rebekah is away, Gennie Veryard will be stepping into her role as Health and Safety Rep for Booth Street. We ask that if you have Health and Safety concerns, you go to Gennie.  Gennie will address all your concerns formally at  the Health and Safety meetings.

Labour Management Representative, Laura Crockett has temporarily taken on a management role. Therefore, Gennie Veryard will be stepping into her role as Labour Management Rep for Booth Street. We ask that if you have Labour Management concerns, you go to Gennie. Gennie will address your concerns formally at the Labour Management meetings.

Ashley Jordan, Acting President

Please be aware that Ashley is now Acting President. As Acting President she is responsible for taking over all responsibilities of the President.  Ashley is excited to step into this role and encourages you to call or email her if you have any questions or concerns.

Alicia Guy steps into Steward Role to represent Supportive Housing

Alicia Guy  stepped  into the vacant Steward role for Supportive Housing (Unit B) at last membership meeting, held on January 6th, 2014. Alicia has been formally sworn in and is looking forward to supporting union members to the best of her ability. Please join me in congratulating and thanking Alicia for taking on such an important role in the union!
